What to do about men, and the study of men and masculinities, and why bother? Can there be a sociology, a social science, of men and masculinities? In this lecture Jeff Hearn provides a brief overview of the growth of critical studies on men and masculinities, as a preface to the discussion of the question of how such studies interconnect with globalisation, and then in turn the transnational, and transnational processes of change. The final part seeks to relate these issues to the concepts of the material-discursive, trans(national)patriarchies, and the gexual.
