Gender Studies Seminar Series: "The Republic of Masculinity: Turkish Experiments with Gender, Modernity, and Governmentality"
The Department of Gender Studies welcomes Cenk Özbay, Professor of Sociology, Sabancı University, Turkey, to the Gender Studies Seminar Series. This seminar will will present his research on the topic "The Republic of Masculinity: Turkish Experiments with Gender, Modernity, and Governmentality".
Cenk Özbay is a professor of Sociology and Gender Studies at Sabanci University in Istanbul, Turkey. Their research and teaching focuses on gender and sexuality, masculinities, the body, cities, culture, and neoliberalism. They have published extensively in national and international academic journals. Cenk Özbay is the author of Queering Sexualities in Turkey (2017) and co-editor of Yeni Istanbul Çalışmaları (2014) and The Making of Neoliberal Turkey (2016), among other books.
The Seminar Series
The Gender Studies Seminar Series invites researchers to share their insight on key issues for gendered and sexualized lives and knowledges, and to engage in critical discussions about the development of gender studies as an interdisciplinary and intersectional research field. Bringing together scholars from various research fields and theoretical traditions, this seminar series offers a platform for critical reflexions and new insights.
